Bank strike

Along with Loan Mela, we also started a Scheme to disburse loans to Small Scale Industries. Bank staff again started protesting citing work pressure. Staff of a Nationalized Bank in Shimla shut down the Bank and started an agitation. It went on for days. When people sought to withdraw their Deposits, the protesting staff turned down their request. People also started a protest. I remained silent despite knowing what was happening in Shimla. There was a reason for it. One day after waiting for six days, people attacked the Bank Manager and other staff. The protest was withdrawn the very next day. I knew that this was going to happen. When people revolt, nobody can do anything. I thought that was the correct way to respond to the Strike. Not only the Bank staff, I also used to put questions to the people seeking loans. How much loan you get? How much of it is subsidized? What is the Rate of Interest? Did anybody seek bribe to give loan? I used to ask them.

In Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, people had caught Bank staff asking for bribe. Then some people came to me and said, "Poojary ji why you make such speeches? See, people have caught a Bank staff red handed while taking bribe". 'This is how it should work. People should know what is happening in Banks and Government Offices. People are trying to end the menace of corruption. This is very important ", I said. That was a time of Commission Agents who used to take money from people to get loan sanctioned by Banks. I put an end to this menace through Loan Melas.
