There was a Loan Mela organized in Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu. When I reached the spot, members of DMK Party started protesting. "Go back Poojary, Go back," they shouted. Some people even showed black flags. My staff told me not to get down as situation was tense. But I was not at all scared. I got down from the car and asked, "What is the matter? Why are you protesting?" "We will not allow you to conduct Loan Melas here. If you insist, we will break your legs,'' they threatened me. "When we give loan, do we ask your caste and religion? This programme is for the poor. We are giving loans to the homeless. There are people from your Party also. There are people from your caste and religion also. You come and see. We are giving loans to 50,000 people today. So at any cost, I will not stop this programme. If you try to stop it, poor people will curse you', I told them. They realised their mistake and allowed me to attend the Mela. I took some of them to the Mela and made them hand over loan amount to the beneficiaries. They were very happy. "Poojary Valge"(Long live Poojari) they shouted. Some even apologized for the protest.
