One day, we had organized Loan Melas in several places in Rajasthan. MPs and MLAs used to come with me for these programmes. It was summer then and the sun was very hot. When we were going from one place to another, they used to invite me for lunch. But I refused to have lunch until the programme was over.

In one programme, a huge crowd had gathered. As soon as we got on to the stage, one of the MPs accompanying me started drinking water from a bottle kept on the dias. I stopped him immediately. "See there. How many people are sitting under scorching sun for hours without drinking water. Have you provided them water?' I asked. He was moved by my question. Suddenly, he got up and told the people what I said over the mike. "Poojary ji ki Jai," filled the air.
