I won the 1977 election with a huge margin by seeking votes in Indira Gandhi's name. Congress is winning even now because of the good work she has done. That is why she became Amma (mother) to lakhs of poor and the downtrodden. She never discriminated against anyone on the lines of caste or religion.

When she died, the country wept. Why? Because they felt like they had lost a close family member. Why so many people used to gather for Indira Gandhi's rallies and functions? It is because of her selfless service.

Didn't India develop under Indira? It's true that India achieved what it has achieved because of the selfless efforts of common Indians. But Indira Gandhi gave them the much needed leadership. Now, almost every village has electricity, telephone, roads, bus facility and other infrastructure. Who did this? Did Modi do all this? It is the people of India under the leadership of Congress who made this possible.
