My attack on Soviet union Officials

One day Indira Gandhi summoned me to her residence. "I am sending P Shivashankar, H K L Bhagat and you in a Delegation to Soviet Union. You have to study the Parliamentary system and organizational structure there,'' she said.

Later she called me to her Chamber and said, "Poojary ji you should do one more thing when you go to Soviet Union. Don't tell about this to Shivashankar and Bhagat". "What is it?" I asked. "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister H N Bahuguna is hatching a conspiracy to dislodge me. He wants to become Prime Minister. Soviet Union is also involved in this and supporting him. When you go there, you apprise Vice President Christio about the same. You also tell him to keep away from India's internal matters."

We went to Soviet Union. The Vice President had organized a banquet for us in Moscow. I thought it was the right time and raised the issue. "You are trying to dislodge Indira Gandhi. It is our internal matter and it is better that Russia keeps away from this,'' I told him directly. All dignitaries were shocked. "No, we are not involved in anything of that sort. We will never ever interfere in India's internal matters," they assured.

After our return, we met Prime Minister Indira. Others, who had come in the delegation, complained to Indira "Poojary should not have spoken like that," they told. Indira Gandhi kept quite. Indira Gandhi had received message about my speech from Soviet Union also. They had sent the details of what I had spoken. She was very happy. One can gauge how much confidence she had in me with this incident.
